About us

Who We Are

Melon Mission School is a nonprofit educational institution operating under the WEMA Melon Foundation. The school is committed to serving children from diverse and underserved communities in Nakuru City, Kenya. We believe every child deserves access to education that is transformative, intellectually rich and purpose driven. Our community welcomes all children, with particular care for those facing social and economic barriers. We provide a safe, nurturing environment where learning is rigorous, belonging is intentional and potential is cultivated. Through high standards, compassion and holistic support, we empower learners to grow with confidence and rise toward their fullest possibilities.
Melon Mission School was founded in 2004 by the late Bishop Joseph and his wife, Beatrice, with a humble beginning of approximately 20 students. Guided by faith, vision and a deep commitment to education, the school steadily grew and continues to grow into a vibrant learning community that now serves nearly 600 students, standing as a testament to the power of purpose driven service. Following Bishop Joseph’s passing on January 2, 2011, his family continued his legacy by formally establishing Wema Melon Foundation Ltd as a nonprofit organization to sustain and strengthen this mission.

Why The Name Melon

The name Melon is inspired by the resilience and life giving nature of the watermelon. Often found growing even in harsh conditions, the watermelon is hardy, nourishing and refreshing.

A fruit that thrives even where circumstances are challenging. In the same way, the children at Melon Mission possess deep strength, resilience and potential, even when their life journeys have not been easy. With the right guidance and opportunity, they too can flourish.
The name reflects a belief that growth is always possible. Just as a watermelon matures in its own time, every child has the capacity to grow and succeed when nurtured in a supportive environment.

As Bishop Joseph, the founder of Melon Mission, often said,
“No matter the growing season, a melon always ripens.”
These words captured his enduring faith in the children he served. They continue to guide our work today, reminding us that with patience and consistent support, every child can thrive and reach their fullest potential.
